Viagra,
also known as the little blue pill, is the first
PDE5 inhibitor approved for the treatment of Erectile Dysfunction
(Impotence). This pill is one of the most widely known prescription drugs on
the U.S. market. ED is one of the most common problems faced by men all over
the world. It refers to a failure of a man to get or maintain an erection
required for sexual intercourse. It occurs when there is not enough blood flow
into the penile region. ED pills like Viagra helps to treat this problem by
relaxing the blood vessels, thus, enabling better blood flow into the region.
This helps men to achieve an erection. However, ED pills do not work without
sexual stimulation.
HOW TO TAKE THIS
DRUG?
Before consuming this medication, do a check-up with the
doctor. Follow his instructions very carefully. The dosage depends on your

• This is an oral
drug to be taken once a day usually when needed, with or without food.
• It is to be taken
about 30 minutes to an hour before sexual intercourse.

consequences. They include vomiting, prolonged erection, diarrhea, blindness,
damage to the optic nerve etc.
• Consumption of
Viagra with alcohol or other such substances can be very dangerous to your

• While taking (sildenafil)
Viagra, do not consume other medications for ED like vardenafil (Levitra),
tadalafil (Cialis) etc. Tell your doctor all about the medications that you are
currently on to ensure their safe interaction with Viagra.
• Tell your doctor
beforehand if you have –
Liver or kidney disease,
Hypotension (low blood pressure),
Had a recent heart attack or stroke,
Hereditary degenerative retinal disorders, or
If you are on nitrates, nitric oxide donors, and organic
nitrites.
• Store it at room
temperature away from moisture, heat, and direct sunlight. Do not keep it in
the washroom. Keep it in a sealed container.
• This is a
medication for adults. If you are 18 years and under, you should only take it
under medical supervision.
SIDE EFFECTS
The most commonly reported side effects of this drug include
the following:
• Headaches
• Photophobia
(sensitivity to light)
• Dyspepsia
(indigestion)
• Vision problems
• Nasal congestion
A rare event, but, some users have also reported having
experienced cyanopsia where everything appears to have a tinted blue tinge. Use
of Viagra can also lead to damage of the optic nerve (A very rare case).
Other potential side effects of this drug include:
